Is Location Independence Bullshit

Is Location Independence Bullshit I cant be a minimalist because I dont have the desire to travel.  Man, if we had a dollar for every time we heard something like that. Many people stumble across the extreme aspects of minimalism and immediately think, That is not for me. They see minimalists with 55 things and think, Not only does that seem unattainable for me and for my family, but I dont even want that kind of lifestyle.  They see minimalists with peripatetic lifestyles who travel all over the world and say, Thats cool, but I dont want to do that.  But of course minimalism isnt about counting your stuff. Even Dave Bruno, the guy who started this whole counting thing with his 100 Thing Challenge, would tell you that counting is not the point. And minimalism isnt about traveling all over the world with everything you own strapped to your back, either. Rather, minimalism is about taking the time to get rid of the excess stuff in your life so you can live a more meaningfully life and focus on whats important. Thus, there is nothing wrong with living with 67 things or living in hotels in a bunch of different cities. We respect that. But we respect it because those people are pursuing the lifestyle they desire. A meaningful life to them is one that is filled with travel and meeting new people in new places and having new experiences all over the world. This is how they are growing as individuals, which is extremely important and admirable. Conversely, there is also nothing wrong with owning 417 things or not counting your stuff at all. If you want to travel the world, free of the burdens of location, thats great! If you dont, thats great, too! However, sometimes people dont want to change their geographical location because they feel tethered to the area in which the live. Meaning that people have families and friends that are very important to them. One of the key factors in living a happy life is our relationships with others. But that doesnt mean that one must stay in the same place forever. True friends remain friends regardless of your location. And your family will always be related to you. Plus, your immediate family can move with you if you decide together to make a location change. If you desire to live in a new place, dont let the anchor of relationships hold you back. There are endless possibilities of new exciting relationships everywhere. Conversely, there is something to be said for planting roots within a community. If the meaning of life is contributionâ€"which we strongly believe it isâ€"then a great way to contribute is to establish a foothold in a community and to contribute to the people in that community. Thats not to say you cant travel and still contribute, but communities require community leaders, and thus someone must establish themselves as leaders within a community for the community to flourish. Even with a strong tie to a community, its advisable to take the occasional journey outside your comfort zone to see the world from a fresh perspective. But we dont feel obligated to travel. And that is perhaps the difference. So if youre contemplating a minimalist lifestyle, but feel burdened by the whole traveling requirement, dont be. The majority of minimalists are not nomads. Some minimalists have families and children and suburban homes and personal baggage and go to school and practice their religion and live extraordinary lives with less stuff. Thats the commonality: minimalists live worthwhile lives by eliminating excess from their lives. Minimalists live a life of freedom, one in which they are aware of whats going on around them and inside them. And regardless of their traveling preferences, they are walking with the living, not the dead. So, no, we dont think location independence is bullshit. If youre passionate about traveling, then, by all means, have at it. Minimalism is great for that, too. But you can be happy either way. Said another way, there is no wrong way to live a minimalist lifestyle. A location independent lifestyleâ€"a lifestyle of of moving and traveling all the timeâ€"or a community based lifestyle (or a combination of the two in some cases) are equally valuable. The only time we really understand her is when she speaks. What else can an old woman do on hills as wretched as these? I believe here the old woman is changing her tactics, she has tried being clingy but know shes going to play the sympathy card. I believe these two lines of speech show us that she is determined and always gets her way. The style of language in charlotte ONeils Song is very simplistic and easy to understand. You dined at eight And slept till late Maybe this reflects how simple her life was, she did the same thing day in day out, it could also mirror how simple her knowledge and education is. In the poem charlotte reels off a lot of statements which could mean she is sure about what she is doing. There are no questions, she is so sure about her life that she has no need to stop and question anyone, anything, or any decision. However the style of language in An old woman is very complicated and hard to understand. The cracks that begin around her eyes spread beyond her skin I believe this suggests how difficult the old womans life is, nothing is easy for her, she never knows what to expect or what the day will hold for her. I think it shows this by suggesting how the world cracks around her forming a sort of maze which reflects her life, and her purpose in life in trying to get to the end of the maze which will stop the suffering she is going through. In Charlotte ONeils Song the freedom of verses reflects the freedom of her life. There is no set verse length or rhyme structure the is showing that she cannot be contained within verses or her old job, she makes the rules and she can make her life, and the verses, go in any direction she wants. At he end of the poem there is a one line stanza, a throw away comment, again suggesting she makes the rule within her life and the poem. Unlike Charlotte ONeils song In An Old Woman all the verses are regular and have the same structure, this reflects the Old Womans life. She has been contained within the verses like she has been contained within begging, because she has no way out. She views her life in short episodes shown by the shortness of the verses. Ive cleaned your plate And Ive cleaned your house And Ive cleaned the clothes you wore Farrell makes the pattern even clearer by using and repeating the verb cleaned. Even though this is an effective method I do not believe it is as good as descriptive words, metaphors and similes. Where as in An Old Woman there is lots of strong imagery. Clear through the bullet holes she has for eyes. I think this is the strongest description in the poem. It gives a brilliant image of the Old Womans eyes, I imagine no eyes at all and just sockets which the sky can be seen through. The bullet holes relate to war and suffering which can be linked back to begging, which is a type of suffering. These two poems are very different in everyway, the language, structure and the message they give off. An old woman gives off a strong image about suffering, and as that is still relevant today we can relate to it. But in Charlotte ONeils song there is not a clear message that is put across; you could say that it is linked to slavery as domestic service could be perceived as a very weak form of slavery. In my opinion An old woman by Arun Kolator is a much better poem as it contains much stronger images than Charlotte ONeils song.

Mythology Introduction This project will focus on the adventures of Dionysus and his interactions with other people. I will also show what Dionysus stands for and is depicted by. You will learn about his lifestyle and the way he affected others' lives. I will explain his family and birth and I will tell the story of the few who dare to oppose Dionysus. Family Dionysus' father was Zeus(Jupiter), king of the gods. Zeus played a very important role in Greek mythology as he was the father of many significant gods. He was the ultimate ruler of Heaven and Earth and had control over meteorological phenomenon. In most legends, Semele was the mother of Dionysus while Orphic legends recorded Persephone as being Dionysus' mother. Semele was the beautiful daughter of Cadmus and Harmonia. Her affair with Zeus was strictly secret and later caused her death. Hera(Zeus' wife) found out that they were having an affair and made Zeus kill Semele. As an adult, Dionysus rescued Semele from the underworld and made her a goddess known as Thyone. When Semele died, she was still pregnant with Dionysus in her womb. Zeus came along and rescued Dionysus from Semele's ashes and sewed Dionysus into his hip until he was ready to be born. Basic Information Dionysus was mainly recognized as the god of wine. He was almost always drunk, and he made people happy with his wine. He traveled around teaching the art of wine making and the cultivation of the vine. Dionysus was also fairly well known as an artistic god. Most of the plays and dramas were in his honor. Drama and poetry both play an important role in the worship of Dionysus. His symbols were grapes, rams, thyrsus, and serpents. His domain was vegetation, pleasure, freedom, and civilization. Dionysus is sometimes referred to as Bacchus and in Roman mythology Dionysus was known as Liber. Dionysus could make people light- hearted and happy or he could make them sad and unhappy. Stories Dionysus' Kidnapping This is a story of which I have found in many different books, however, only two versions were somewhat different. One version containing the character of Acetes, and the other without Acetes. Some pirates saw Dionysus and they assumed by his appearance that he had rich parents, so they decided to capture and sell him for ransom. They took Dionysus onto the ship and attempted to bind him with ropes, however, the ropes broke as soon as they touched Dionysus. One crew member pleaded to let him go, for the breaking of the ropes convinced him that Dionysus was a god, but the other crew members were stubborn and ignored him. The crew members soon found out that Dionysus was angered when he turned into a lion and fragrant wine started flowing down the ship's deck. Soon after, vines and ivy spread around the ship and the terrified pirates began to turn into dolphins. One by one they leaped into the sea. END. A group of pirates see a strong, and healthy young man and they figure they could make a good profit selling him as a slave in Egypt. One pirate, by the name of Acetes, urged the other crew members to sail wherever the visitor(Dionysus) wished. The pirates were greedy and set sail toward Egypt when all of a sudden lions appear and crouch at their feet. In the background, sounds of flutes were heard and each pirate(except for Acetes), gradually transforming into dolphins, leaped into the water. Dionysus told Acetes to sail toward the island of Naxos and Acetes eagerly obeyed. It is on the island of Naxos where Dionysus meets and falls in love with Ariadne. Dionysus' Romance With Ariadne After Dionysus was kidnapped by pirates, he was dropped off on the island of Naxos. While in Naxos, Dionysus met Ariadne who had been abandoned on the island. He took pity on her and they soon fell in love. When Ariadne died, Dionysus took the golden crown he had given her and placed it among the stars. END. Dionysus met Ariadne on Naxos, he quickly wooed her and won her over. Compare The Elements of Supranationalism and Intergovernmentalism – Government Essay Free Online Research Papers Compare The Elements of Supranationalism and Intergovernmentalism Government Essay Both terms which I am going to analyse and compare in this essay Intergovernmentalism and Supranationalism belong amongst the key concepts related to the talks about the nature of EU integration. In the beginning I feel it is necessary to start with brief definitions of these terms as they are described by one of my sources, Neill Nugent. In one of his books he refers to Intergovernmentalism as â€Å"arrangements whereby nation states, in situations and conditions they can control, cooperate with one another on matters of common interest. The existence of control, which allows all participating states to decide the extent and nature of this cooperation means that national sovereignty is not directly undermined.† His definition of Supranationalism is following : â€Å"Supranationalism involves states working with one another in a manner that does not allow them to retain complete control over developments. That is, states may be obliged to do things against their preferences and their will because they do not have the power to stop decisions. Supranationalism thus takes inter-state relation beyond cooperation into integration, and involves some loss of national sovereignty.† The aim of my essay is to compare the key elements of above mentioned terms, but I am also going to argue with one part of both mentioned definitions. I am going to argue that it is not necessary the loss of national sovereignty which is at stake in supranational concept, but rather a loss of autonomy. Due to the fact that the concept of national sovereignty is part of both definitions and therefore the question of its loss vs. preservation can be considered one of the main distinguishing elements between intergovernmental and supranational approach I feel it is necessary to start the discussion with this argument. First, if we understand the sovereignty as a characteristic feature of every state where â€Å"the state stands above all other associations and groups within its geographical area and its jurisdiction extends to the whole population of the (state’s) area† we can not argue, in my opinion, that during the process of integration states loose any of these elements. Neither does the state cease to stand above groups and associations within its area , nor does its jurisdiction stop to extend to the whole population of its territory. Rather, I want to argue, the process of integration involves additional institutions which can share the influence on the associations, groups and individuals existing within the area of the state but they do not stop the state to stand above them as a sovereign on its territory. Moreover, the integration process in the judicial area does not stop the state’s jurisdiction to extend to the whole of its population. I agree that the legal su premacy of the EU law has a significant influence on legal systems in EU member countries and that it can result in such outcomes as e.g. state legislatives being prevented from introducing certain national laws which they desire, but in my point of view, it does not interfere with the definition of sovereignty as it was described above. I am trying to argue that it is an autonomy as â€Å"an ability to make decisions without the informal influence of other subjects† or as â€Å"a degree of political independence possessed by territorial division† which is at stake in the process of integration. Second, I want to argue with Nugent’s statement that â€Å"no modern state can now be regarded as being fully sovereign in de facto sense, and the EU member states cannot even claim that they are fully sovereign in de jure sense.† In fact, I think this statement interferes with his own definition of sovereignty as it is described in my first argument. In my opinion, it is again autonomy what modern states are lacking in recent history and times of closer integration and globalisation. To support my argument, I am agreeing with Tokar’s statement that â€Å"according to international standards formally sovereign is even a small and economically unimportant state† and with Rosamond who says that â€Å"Sovereignty is about absolutes: states either have it or they do not. () the present international system is founded on the principle of sovereign statehood.† Basically, every existing internationally recognized state is sovereign in a sense that it pos sesses four key characteristics of the state territoriality, sovereignty, legitimacy and monopoly of governance within its territorial area. But, not every state, especially not a small and economically unimportant state, possesses the same amount of autonomy (as described in the first argument) to make important decisions without both, formal and informal influence coming from outside its territory. Third, and this is my last argument concerned with autonomy vs. sovereignty, the loss of sovereignty of any state requires changes of the statehood (e.g. existing state can join with another state and form a new one either unitary of federative state; existing state can disintegrate and form two or more new sovereign, independent states; or a nation can be successful in claiming its right to self-determination and if recognized by other states it can evolve into formation of a new sovereign state) while loss of autonomy is a process where states remain formally sovereign but they gradually experience impotence to make certain decisions independently from other (usually higher, supranational) influence. And this is, I want to argue, the case that occurs during the process of European integration. Now that I have explained how I view the concept of sovereignty as one of the key elements of both, intergovernmental as well as supranational approach, I can begin to compare their key characteristics. When studying integrational theories and their character, one can find a clear division between how the two above mentioned approaches view certain processes and situations. The main differences occur in the following areas: who they consider to be the key actors of integration question of possession of power how they view EU what character of decision making they prefer types of politics they focus on how they view the relationship between politics and economics how they approach the question of sovereignty Those who support intergovernmentalism consider key actors to be nation states and their governments while supranationalist supporters argue that it is supranational organizations and their institutions who represent it. This attitude is also connected to the question of possession of power. While intergovermentalists see the power (especially decision-making power) as a possession of member states, supranationalists view the EU as a quasi-state where member state governments still have the power but they decided to and therefore must share it with other actors. While in the first case independent appointees of governments have solely advisory or implementational functions, in supranational organization the power is held by representatives elected by the legislatives or by the people of member states and states have no power to stop their decisions. This is conjoined with the way these two approaches view the EU one as a sort of international organisation and the other as quasi-state. As to the character of reaching decisions, intergovernmentalist approach favours decision-making by unanimity while supranationalist approach strongly supports majority voting arguing that where decisions must be made by different governments acting unanimously it could take years to reach some decisions (if reached at all). In the sphere of politics, intergovernmentalists make a distinction between â€Å"low† and â€Å"high† politics arguing that it is possible for governments to cooperate in areas of â€Å"low† politics, while area of â€Å"high† politics including issues of key importance where national interests are at stake makes it difficult for governments to agree on integration. On the other hand, supporters of supranationalist approach focus on areas of â€Å"low† politics only. With regard to the relationship between politics and economics, intergovernmental approach presents the idea of economics and politics being relatively autonomous fields and therefore concludes that economical integration doesn’t necessary cause political integration. On the contrary, supranationalists came with the idea of â€Å"spillover† by which they explain their assumption that economic integration creates a pressure for integration in other sectors (one of which is political sector) and therefore they argue that politics follows economics. The last important comparison is how the two approaches view the question of sovereignty (autonomy). While supporters of intergovernmentalism argue that EU integration should only involve pooling of sovereignty (not giving up some part of it) which strengthens the nation state and that supranationalism is a threat to national sovereignty and democracy claiming that only national governments should possess the necessary democratic legitimacy, supporters of supranationalism do not fear the loss of sovereignty (autonomy). In fact, they support the idea that states should voluntarily give up some of their sovereignty and pass it onto collective institutions in return for many gains, prosperity and collective strength that such integration provides. Despite of all above mentioned differences, there is no single solution which would indicate that only one of these approaches would be more appropriate than the other when speaking about the process of ongoing European integration. In fact, the uniqueness of EU lies in the fact that it embodies both supranational as well as intergovernmental features in its system of governance and that it considers both of these approaches as important for its functioning. This reflects in EU having both types of institutions involved supranationally organised Commission, Parliament and the Court of Justice and their intergovernmnetally based counterparts such as European Council and Council of Ministers. As history has proved the balance should remain at least until the time when different states will be able to reach a consensus in the question of the direction which the future EU should betake. While recruiting new employees, they can select candidates who are more creative and innovative and can adapt themselves to the changing work environment. Also, retention of good employees is necessary. The HR policies and procedures should be designed in such a way that they allow employees to meet their personal objectives. Succession planning, on the other hand, is about planning to meet future skills and knowledge needs with existing resources. Human Resources’ involvement and its contribution is perhaps the greatest in training and development. Human Resources should get itself actively involved in the technological developments in the workplace as they can train the employees accordingly. Training is necessary for individuals to work in teams as co-operation and sharing of information brings in benefits for the whole organization. T hough Human Resources’ contribution is inevitable in the area of Knowledge Management, it has certain limitations as Human Resources and other departments are most in conflicts. They are looking for a new alternative approach to advertise towards consumers and have requested myself to develop a flash game that will market and publicise their product in a fun, engaging, family friendly way that will advertise to consumers in a positive way. Over the years marketing has helped build and expand the MMs brand and has created a positive reputation of MARS ®. Computer-animated MM characters with cartoon-like storytelling have proved popular on television and it has helped to increase the brands recognition as a candy icon. Gaming is big business around the world and screen time is increasing at a steady rate. Eight to twenty-year old are the biggest consumers of chocolate and are one of the biggest users of new technology. Linking advertising with interactive gaming is a marketing dream as the intended audience is seeing this brand every day. This new proposed alternative way of advertising to consumers is creating a Flash game that will publicise their brand and product in a beneficial way. This proposed flash game can lead to positive outcomes for MARS ® as this a link to this game could be located on the companys home page on their website, which would make consumers more interested in their product creating an increa se in sales for MMs creating profits for MARS ®. The proposed flash game will be a remake of the retro of the 1980s-video game Pacman, but will be created with a twist. The game will be created using logos and images sourced from MARS ®s websites. The main villain is an alternative to the original to the game and is rebranded MM themed to the new main character Red who has been an icon to the product for more than 50 years being soon on numerous internet and TV commercials. The game will mainly feature MM and Skillites related characters. The game will have a background that will blend in well with the games design and concept. As mentioned, the flash game will be a remake of the retro of the 1980s-video game Pacman ®. The game will have multiple levels and difficulties. The game will begin with a start game page, exhibiting the main MM character Red, the start page will also contain URL links to MARS ®s products page, history of MMs and the MM logo. The levels will be created to look like the original Pacman game but will have MMs instead of dots, Skillites instead of fruit and MM characters instead of ghosts, and a human hand instead of Pacman to eat the MMs. The human hand with be navigated by the players using the arrow keys on their keyboard, using the arrow keys human hand icon can then travel up, down and left to right. For scene navigation, the player must select the button using their mouse to proceed to the next scene. The main objective of the game is for the human hand to eat all the MMs without being attacked and killed by the MM characters, If the human hand can eat all the MMs without bei ng attacked then the hand proceeds to the next level of the game. The characters for the flash game are as follows: Main hero controlled by Player: The player controls the hero using the arrow keys. Villains controlled by CPU:       These are the main villains for the game that will attack the player and will deplete the live icons on the games background. I have also decided which brand and company, I will use for my promotional game. Ive also decided what theme I will develop for my game which will be Pacman. I also finalised the final design for my game and have decided which characters will be implemented in the game. Next time I will continue the theory and reporting work for my game. 3/03/17: Today I commenced the flowcharts for my game and finished them, it also includes the coding algorithm I will be using, as well as the procedure I will be using. It also shows how the user (Player) for the game will navigate the games function and layout. Next time I wish to begin developing the flash game and to commence coding. 6/03/17: Today I started the development for my flash game, by creating the layout and main features for my game. I have commenced coding the game and started developing the first level and scene, I have also made many buttons in my game that will navigate the player to the next scene. However, I did encounter some problems throughout the project with coding my game and the games functions. Because of this a minority of functions and buttons for my game dont work which is unfortunate, however the games background music, URL links and animations work accordingly. Next time in the future to resolve these issues, I wish to learn more flash coding techniques for resolving coding problems, by using better resolutions, that I had during my projects development, so I dont encounter these problems again. Because of these issues, Ive learnt what not to do next time I develop a project like this. Overall, I believe my game has the design and concept for a complete game but unfortunately the issues as explained earlier are interfering with this and I need to find better solutions in the future to overcome these issues, by using the trial and error principle.

Animal Farm, by George Orwell :: Animal Farm Essays

  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Animal Farm   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Theme. What is it? A theme is a central idea of a story that usually reveals something about human nature. A theme is usually unstated as are the themes in George Orwell’s Animal Farm. One theme that can be taken away from the story is weakness can be easily dominated through language and ignorance. This will be seen through the manipulative language of Squealer and the gullibility of the animals.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  One way in which this can be seen is through Squealer. In one situation all of the apples and milk will be given to the pigs a few animals disagree with this. â€Å"Comrades!† he cried. â€Å"You do not imagine I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself. Our sole object is to preserve our health. Milk and apples (this has been proved by Science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig. We pigs are brainworkers. The whole management and organization of this farm depends on us. Day and night we are watching over your welfare. It is for your sake that we drink the milk and eat those apples. Do you know what would happen if we pigs failed in our duty? Jones would come back! Yes, Jones would come back! Surely, comrades,† cried Squealer almost pleadingly, skipping form side to side and whisking his tail, â€Å"surely there is no one among you who wants to see Jones come back?† The animals all are in agreement that they do not want Jones back, therefore; believing that the pigs health was the upmost concern (Orwell 820). Here one can see that the animals are easily deceived through a few big words and a lot of fast talking that can be easily confused if one does not pay attention closely. When the animals agree with the fact that they do not want Jones back they assume that they must also be saying that the pigs need the apples and milk to help keep them in health. Although this is not what they are saying, they are saying that they do not want Jones back, and they believe that the way to keep him away is to give the pigs the apples and milk because they stand vehemently against Jones. So now the animals believe that the pigs are entitled to special privileges in order to keep Jones from coming back. Time and time again the animals are deceived because by agreeing with one thing they believe that they are agreeing with everything.

Orchestra Concert

The music played throughout all of the concerts adhered to be diverse. The instruments, the individuals performing, and the conductor all proved to be outstanding. The concerts proved to be interesting as I witnessed them, first hand. The first concert I attended was performed by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra had performed Shostakovich’s â€Å"Symphony NO. 7, Leningrad† from the Romantic era. The orchestra was a large ensemble (1) containing various instruments that contributed to the overall sound of the piece. Since the orchestra was a large ensemble, just like the instrumentation common in the Romantic era, the orchestra was able to perform in a lively, vigorous manner, probably vivace (2). The orchestra performed tutti (3), in which all of the instruments of the ensemble played together. Every member of the orchestra played with exactness and steady energy, or in other words, con gusto (4). Overall, all the instruments included in the ensemble were needed for the piece to sound fanciful. In addition to the large ensemble, the orchestra played in an allargando (5) manner, in which the orchestra grew louder and then softer, which is also common to the Romantic era. As the orchestra progressed through the piece, the orchestra used various bow styles in order to dramatize the music. The ensemble played the symphony using legato, marcato (5), and spiccato (6), which contributed to the immense sound. The composer’s style of this piece was typical for the Romantic era because the composition was extensive, and included the piano, which is a well-known, as well as, important instrument in the Romantic era. The symphony, although has many characteristics included in the Romantic era, is not completely similar to other pieces that I have performed that are included in the Romantic era. Unlike the Shostakovich’s symphony, â€Å"Largo†, is a slow and steady piece that includes dynamic fluctuations. Similar to the symphony, the piece â€Å"Bacchanale† involves using marcato throughout the piece. While the orchestra was performing, the audience sat silent in order to observe the orchestra. All of the members of the orchestra seemed to be attentive to the conductor, which is important because every member of the orchestra needs to be aware of what is going to happen next in the music. The brass and the string had sections in the music, where they were the most important parts. Overall, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra performed well as a whole group. The second concert I attended was performed by the Richardson Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra performed â€Å"Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor, BWV 582† by Bach, which is part of the Baroque era. The string instruments of the orchestra performed with the hair of the bow, in other words, arco (7). By using lots of motion or most commonly known as mosso (8), the orchestra increased the tension of the piece. The orchestra played at a pretty fast tempo (9), probably allegro. The piece had a distinct part where the harp played. The ensemble was large, in order to attain the full sound of the piece. The instruments played in the orchestra did not comply with the typical orchestras of the Baroque era because it did not have a distinct part where were the main instruments were the piano and the bass, or more commonly known as basso continuo (10). Along with the use of basso continuo, the orchestra used ornamentation by adding grace notes (11) throughout the piece. The Baroque era also included the doctrine of affections (12), in which the Richardson Symphony Orchestra demonstrated by playing faster notes to demonstrate happiness. The style of the composer was distinctive of the Baroque era because he use both ornamentation and doctrine of affections. The bow stroke of the piece that was mostly used was legato. Unlike the piece we previously played in orchestra which is also part of the Baroque era (â€Å"Allegro in D for Strings†), the piece the symphony performed did not have the marcato stroke. My favorite part of the whole composition was when the harp was playing distinctly, but overall the orchestra played magnificently. The intonation of the orchestra was precise and all of the members of the orchestra played well as a whole. The orchestra also performed â€Å"Concerto #23 in A major, K. 488† by Mozart, which is part of the Mozart era. The orchestra included many instruments, as well as the piano, which had a very important part in the piece. The piano seemed to have the solo (13) in the piece. The use of the piano is not a standard to the classical era, although it contributed to the overall sound of the piece. The piece that the orchestra performed was extensive, which is a common characteristic of the Classical era. The composition reflected a fanciful style, known as caprice (14). The composer used some of the typical characteristics of the Classical era, by making the piece lengthier than those of the Baroque era, but the composer also added a twist by using the piano. The orchestra used both legato and marcato to reflect a whimsical style. The composition most likely included cue notes (15), in order to guide the players who were not playing while the piano was. Similarly to the piece that the Richardson Symphony Orchestra performed, â€Å"Menuetto† by Mozart also reflects a fanciful style that uses legato. The composition that the orchestra performed made me feel light-hearted. All of the professional musicians that performed had paid attention to the piano solo, in addition to paying attention to the conductor. Most of the string instruments used the middle part of their bow, in order to play quickly which reflected a fast sound. All of the professional concerts that I attended were a great learning experience but were also a blast to watch.
